After months of seeing posts about air fryers on Pinterest, I decided to purchase one and give it a try. After scouring reviews on Amazon, I decided on the Go Wise USA Electric Programmable Air Fryer because it was moderately priced (they can get very expensive!) and had awesome reviews. It arrived today and I could not wait to try it!
I chose something easy to start: chicken tenders and zucchini fries. I wanted to try a meat and a vegetable to see how both worked out. Next time I will do one or the other – either the main dish or a side, because they have to cook separately and it took too long to do both.
I prepared the chicken tenders and the zucchini fries the same way, using a fairly basic breading recipe and using the air fryer to cook both.
I must say, when I checked the zucchini fries about half way through the cooking time my initial reaction was “I’ll be damned! It worked!” because I was pretty skeptical that the food would seem “fried.” But it did! I kept the zucchini fries warm in the oven while I cooked the chicken tenders. Both turned out perfectly! I was pleasantly surprised. I made a little salad and dinner was served! The prep seemed to take longer than the cook time.
Go Wise Airwise review:
I am very pleased with this unit! It was easy to use and came with simple to follow instructions. There are 8 pre-programmed settings and you can also use the manual controls to choose your own temperature and bake time. The manual has recommended baking times and temperatures, and a “50 recipe” recipe book is included. The recipes look good and I am sure I will try at least a few.
The frying basket is a good size and I was able to fit enough chicken tenders and zucchini fries (separately) to feed two adults. The basket is easy to clean and so is the part of the unit that the basket sits in.
The unit itself is large and probably not something that would live on a countertop. (Kind of like a bread machine, I will get it out when I want to use it.) However, if you do have a ton of counter space and would like to leave it out, it is very sleek and stylish in black with stainless-look accents.
I am excited to see how it does with fish, onion rings, French fries, etc. Supposedly you can bake a cake in it, but I can’t imagine trying that…donuts and beignets, though? That I can see! I wonder if bagels would work….
If you have a tried & true air fryer recipe that you’d like to share, please leave the recipe link in the comments. I’d love to try some dinners that “for sure” work!
