I’m calling this “Week 1” even though technically we have been working on this for months. But those were months unlike this week, because this week we are busting our butts.
I have decided to loosely chronicle our adventures in blogging for other aspiring bloggers. Since we are starting from scratch with pretty specific goals we want to accomplish asap, I think it will be interesting to take you, our readers, on the journey with us. Will we succeed? We’re about to find out!
Ok, disclosure. I used to work for a pretty well known blogger doing couponing, recipe and DIY write ups for her, so I am not unfamilar with the WordPress format, which has helped a ton because I didn’t have that learning curve to contend with. Disclosure #2, my hubby is a computer genius, so I have him to help me when I am struggling with the site. I swear he can do anything. He’s amazing. Maybe some day he’ll get a post all about his awesomeness, but it’s not going to be today. 😉
That being said, even though I worked for a blogger who (obviously) made enough money from her blog to pay me, I didn’t clue in that there was serious money to be made until recently. I clued in after stumbling across posts from ChasingFoxes.com and ItsALovelyLife.com on Pinterest.
After reading about their successes, particularly the speed in which Chasing Foxes took off, I had a huge “WHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTT?!” moment. This was October-ish of 2017. We were so stressed. My work was crazy. Hubby works 60+ hours a week and has a killer commute on top of that. Something had to give, so I thought, “let’s give it a try!” And here we are.
I bought my domain, picked a theme (not this one) and started writing posts. I had to think “what do I want this blog to bring to people” and the answer was clear: Happiness. We truly love our life and wanted to bring the ambition of living life to its fullest to our readers. What makes us (and just about everyone we know) happy? Life as We’re Living It, Travel, Food, Our Homes, Saving (and making) Money, Enjoying Holidays with Friends & Family. And that, dear readers, is how Looks Like Happy was born.
I wanted to have 50 or so blog posts before we “officially” launched, and after last week and this past weekend’s work frenzy, I hit the mark. And here we are.
-I am putting anywhere from 12-16 hours a day into this project.
-I bought a 30 day blogging course.
-I am Pinning like a mad woman (almost 10,000 Pins in about three weeks.)
-I am working on figuring out what schedule works for me so I can create quality content and add 5-10 posts to our site each week as we continue to grow, while updating our social media and obtaining affiliate marketing and sponsorship opportunities at the same time.
I am very fortunate that I was able to stop working and focus 100% on blogging becoming our full time job. Because of this I am able to dedicate 100% of my time to this site, whereas a few months ago I had to fit it in after a full work week. My hubby is awesome (as I said before) and is floating this boat for now. The end goal? WE blog full time and he is able to quit his job in corporate America. That’s the #1 goal. (Goal #2, boost our savings. Goal #3, travel more as a couple, and also more with our adult daughters and extended family.)
Goals for Week 2:
-Be totally caught up to the current date in the blogging course.
-Have between 60-65 posts total on the site.
-Have applied for every sponsorship opportunity listed in the blog course.
-Figured our Share A Sale affiliate marketing and start Pinning affiliate links.
-Part 2 to the last one: Decide if we should obtain a secondary domain name to Pin affiliate links that do not fit our blog, but may be good money makers.
So that is Week 1. Thanks for joining us!
Allison
