If weekend festivities have left you feeling a little…puffy, and you’re wondering how to lose weight in a week, no worries! Everyone wants to lose weight fast, and by doing these 5 simple things NOW you can lose up to 5 pounds this week! By devoting just a little bit of time for yourself this week, you will be feeling better than ever in no time. It’s never too late to make better choices than you made yesterday, starting today. Ready to get started?
Drink more water.
Drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. Treat yourself to a new, large water bottle if you don’t have one. Try to drink 32 ounces before lunch, another 32 ounces before dinner and a final 32 ounces before bed. Drink up!
Ease up on the carbs.
Carbs are digested quickly, which means you’ll be hungry again very soon. Swap out chips for crunchy carrots, mashed potatoes for riced cauliflower, and go “bunless” this week- no bread. Load up on fruits and veggies, instead, but be mindful of increased sugar from fruits, which can lead to weight gain. Blueberries, blackberries and raspberries are great choices for sweet treats.
Get some sleep.
It seems counter-intuitive, but a lack of sleep does more than make you crabby, it also leads to weight gain and impedes weight loss. Try to get an additional 30 minutes of sleep each night by going to bed earlier, waking up earlier, or a combination of the two. If you have a FitBit or another fitness wearable that monitors your sleep check its stats to see how much “restful sleep” you’re getting. Tip: Do not look at your phone once you’re in bed! It keeps you up longer and the lighting stimulates you to become more awake.
Get some exercise.
If you have a gym membership, now is the time to use it! Even as little as 30 minutes of exercise each morning can set the tone for weight loss. Working out in the morning leads to making better food and health choices throughout the day. If you don’t have a gym membership take your dog for a run or a fast-paced walk, or check out some YouTube videos for cardio. If the motivation of others is what you need, ask your friends if they want to meet for early morning walks a few days each week, or ask a coworker if they’d like to spend their lunch break walking with you. If you can take the stairs at work, do it! Even if you work on the 30th floor you can take the stairs up 10 flights and the elevator the rest of the way. Buy a pair of comfy and not-too-pricey walking shoes, like these cute gym shoes, to leave at work so you’re always prepared. Get up and get moving!
If you have been wanting to give yoga a try, or have time to squeeze in an additional workout before bed, check out Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube. She has all kinds of videos to choose from and always gives options for beginners through advanced. This yoga kit has everything you need to get started. Working out from home is convenient and inexpensive!
Eat lean proteins.
Add more chicken and fish into your meals this week. Leave out red meats, pasta and fried foods. Grilled chicken is great on a salad for a healthy lunch (watch the dressing!) and salmon or tilapia for dinner gives you a protein boost at the end of the day. Eat dinner by 7pm and no snacking before bed! Remember, you’ve eaten all day so the odds of you starving to death overnight are pretty slim. 😉
I’d say “good luck” but you won’t need it if you follow these tips!
Looks Like Happy’s Favorite Workout Things:
- I love this fun workout tank! For one, it’s not super tight. For two, it’s cheap. For three, it’s super cute! (Other prints available.)
- These workout leggings are available in a few different colors, but I am partial to the pink!
- After literally ripping apart one of my husband’s t-shirts to fashion a headband during a particularly horrifically day of sweaty yard work, I finally saw the value in these performance bands. I like that they come in different colors and can be thrown in the wash with the rest of your gear.
- Have I mentioned I am a complete klutz? My husband thinks it’s because I don’t watch where I’m walking. I think it’s because I am trying to do 8 things at once. Either way, the headphone cord is a source of constant annoyance for me. It gets caught on everything! The treadmill, doorknobs, my hyper dog. Wireless ear buds are the solution, and for less than $50 these are great.
