Everyone’s car gets a little gross from time to time. Sports, dogs, kids, weekend trips- you name it, they all contribute to making our cars a mess. I find that my car is the worst at the end of the summer and after a long winter. With summer comes beach sand and more dog hair. From winter you get months of build up, inside and out, because it’s been too cold to clean your car. You can definitely tell the end of summer is near because my car is at the point where I can either clean it or it’s going to get really bad really fast. Time for some car hacks!
If your car needs some attention, try these awesome car hacks to save money and give her a little pick-me-up!
Hacks to Make Your Car Happy Again
Rusty Chrome
My old pickup truck had rusty spots all over the chrome that were driving me nuts! Hubby-who-knows-everything bought me some naval jelly and it helped a ton! Check out the before and after below. All I did was rub the jelly on the rust spots, wait about 15 minutes, and rinse off. So easy! It’s not perfect, but it is 1000 times better than it was!
Foggy Headlights
While I was jelly’ing my chrome, I realized my headlights were pretty cloudy. If your headlight covers are foggy, try making a paste of toothpaste and baking soda to rub on the plastic covers. Using the green side of a “scrubby sponge,” rub the paste into the clovers to clean them up a bit. Let sit for about 5 minutes and then rinse. They will be so much better!
Spare Change
Keep dirty spare change in a gum container that will fit perfectly in a cup holder or in your console.
Custom Car Kit
Put together a “Car Kit” and always have what you need on hand. No more stopping at Walgreens for ibuprofen or tampons! Customize your kit to fit your lifestyle. Mine has wipes, ibuprofen, tampons, hair rubber bands, band-aids, hand sanitizer, scissors, extra contacts, eyeliner and lipstick- just in case!
Floor Mats
If your floor mats are gross, shake them out and throw them right in the dishwasher! Look how new these look!
Pet Hair Removal
Have pets? Use a squeegee to remove stubborn pet hair! I’m totally trying this. I have no idea how my dogs’ hair gets on the seats through the blanket I have down, but it does. Gah!!!
Stained Seats
If you have fabric seats, you’ve probably noticed how even water seems to stain them. Check out this amazing before and after from Inspired Housewife who shows us how to make her miracle upholstery cleaner!
Slime
Slime, it’s not just for kids! Use this super slime to get into all the nooks and crannies that every crumb seems to find. It works like a charm! (And it’s not just for the car. You can use it to clean keyboards, air vents, and everywhere else that is hard to clean.)
Can you imagine how clean your car is going to be once you have given it a thorough cleaning?!
