Spring is the time for fresh beginnings after a long, dark & dreary winter. That also makes it the perfect time to freshen up our homes and dress up our decor a bit! If you are looking for a change of indoor scenery, these new trends in spring decorating will provide you with so many fresh and fun ideas!
The use of color is a great way to perk up a space that has become a little bit drab over time. You’d be surprised what adding a few brightly colored or boldly patterned textiles can do for a room that’s become washed out! By paying attention to the latest home decor style trends you may be surprised to learn you can update your space using mostly your existing items and not spending a fortune.
Trending Spring Decor Colors
According to a recent HGTV article a great way to spice up your dull decor is with some unusual color combinations- you will be surprised how amazing they look together! These colors are complementary even when they may not sound like it. My favorites are the photos I’ve shared below- they are gorgeous together!
Canary Yellow & Indigo
Crimson & Sage
Grass Green & Tangerine
Cobalt & Berry
Slate & Marigold
Poppy & Robin’s Egg Blue
Sherbet & Sea Glass
Aren’t these amazing color combinations? Check out the HGTV article for 17 more gorgeous color combinations. I love all of these, but I am mostly drawn to the tones that are a little more “chill,” like the cobalt & berry, the slate & marigold, the poppy & robin’s egg blue, and the sherbet & sea glass. They are so calming, which is 100% my goal for my house this year. Hygge all the way. This is really making me rethink the colors I have in mind for my finished walkout basement renovation that is coming up!
Trending Spring Decor Style
There are so many new ideas in decor style, and many of them are easy to incorporate into your existing style & decor for a little pick-me-up. Some of my favorites are found in this article at DecorAid. I have been working on adding houseplants to my decor, and I am finally to the point where I am not killing everything! It’s good to see that the simple addition of a few plants is on trend.
Natural Elements
This year there is more emphasis on biophilia, which is the connection between humankind and nature. Bring spring inside with some new plants and fresh blooms. What’s great about houseplants is even in winter they have a way of reminding you that spring is near.
Geometric Patterns
Strategically placed, and not overdone, geometric patterns are a bold choice that is getting a lot of notice this year. I love this geometric tiled wall side by side with the subway tile.
Floral Patterns
Floral patterns are easy to incorporate into any style & your existing style: removable wallpaper, a floral duvet, floral curtains, even floral dishtowels can easily give you a burst of floral!
Bucket Sinks & Brass/Matte Gold Fixtures
Planning a renovation? Consider a bucket sink. Not planning a full renovation, but your bathroom needs a perk up? Swap out your existing fixtures for new ones in matte gold or brass.
Trending Spring Decor Items
Quickly update your space with a little trendiness this year with these decor items that fit what Pinterest are saying will be hugely popular this spring.
Round Mirrors
Mirrors add depth and light to rooms. If you have a room that is small or could use a little more natural light, add a round mirror. An entryway or over a sofa or bed is a great place for a mirror. I just ordered a round mirror similar to the one below for our main bathroom. I can’t wait to get that space done!
Removable Wallpaper in Floral or Geometric Patterns
Make a big change in very little time by adding an accent wall using removable statement wallpaper. Floral will help any room feel like spring all year long. Removable wall paper is also a great way to perk up rental properties that you’re not permitted to paint. We covered the most hideous wall tile in our last rental kitchen with great removable wallpaper that looked like brick. Huge improvement!
Bathroom/Shower Plants
Plants in the bathroom? Well, why not? Plants are great at fighting bacteria, so it makes sense. Add a little spring to your bathroom with a planter that fits your style & a plant you love. I love these modern round hoops! Tip: The 10 Best Plants for people Who Kill Plants
Anything That Gives a “Nordic Retreat” Feel
Fuzzy, cozy pillows
My husband does not understand why we have so many pillows. I feel like my answer of “because they are soooo cozy” is answer enough!
Cozy knit throws
I have a bit of a blanket problem, but still need to add a chunky knit throw to my collection.
What’s Out This Year?
- Eclectic clutter
- Overuse of cool greys
- Rooms without texture or color
- Painted accent walls
Are you feeling inspired? I am! I cannot wait to get started with our planned remodeling projects so I can incorporate some trendy new decor ideas and items into our home!
