Can you believe it’s already BBQ season?! We love hosting BBQ’s because they are always a great time with friends and family. This year we’re going to try to take it up a notch and make it a little different each time. This Memorial Day we are going to have a house full with friends and family at our cottage, so I wanted to put some extra thought into this weekend’s menu. While this is for our Memorial Day BBQ, it’s a great menu for ANY barbecue- whether it’s a holiday or a fun gathering with friends.
From appetizers to drinks, this menu has you covered with delicious recipes from some of my favorite bloggers. Yummmmm. Let’s get cooking!
Drinks
We are going to start the day with these fun Strawberry Pineapple Mimosas because my daughter will be in town and she loooooves mimosas! These look really good, and since they are a Damn Delicious recipe I bet they are fantastic like all of her recipes are!
These mimosas will also transition nicely into our afternoon beverage choice: Strawberry Lemonade Beer, which looks awesome! Super refreshing for an afternoon of bean bags and boat rides.
Appetizers
We love bruschetta and this Easy Tomato Bruschetta with Balsamic Glaze looks delicious! I like making bruschetta because it’s super easy and quick to make. I will probably serve it “DIY style” with the tomato mixture in a bowl and baguette slices in a separate basket. This way people can make their own when they want it and it won’t be soggy.
I’m also going to make this Corn & Black Bean Salsa because it’s always a hit! I like to make it the day before so the juices all mix together. I will probably double (maybe triple) this recipe and I always add extra lime. Our grocery store has *the best* homemade tortilla chips, too. They are so good they sell out really early in the day!
BBQ
I’ve been eyeing this burger for months and have decided now is the time. The Smashburger copycat Spicy Cowboy Burger has everything I love: cheese, bacon, jalapeno AND crispy onion strings. I’m going to add some bourbon to the sauce, use premade patties and <fingers crossed> hopefully find a local restaurant that has onion strings because I’m not good a frying food! I wonder if my air fryer would work for these? Hmmm.
How awesome does this burger look?
It wouldn’t be a Michigan BBQ without sweet corn! Of course it’s still a little early for farm stand corn, but that’s ok because wherever the grocery store is getting their corn from it’s great! This Grilled Sweet Corn with Cilantro Lime Butter looks sooooo good. I think it will complement the burgers nicely!
It wouldn’t be a BBQ without potato salad and I’ve decide to go with a “loaded” version. My daughter is a vegetarian so I am making things she will eat. For the potato salad I can remove her portion from the main batch and then mix the bacon in. This Loaded Potato Salad looks awesome!
Dessert
I’m going non-traditional with dessert. At first I was thinking a red, white and blue dessert, but so far this menu is not Memorial Day specific, so why start now? Plus, when we were in Florida this winter we had THE BEST key lime pie and I have been thinking about it a lot lately. A whole lot. I’ve never made key lime pie before, but aside from finding key limes in my tiny rural farm town, how hard can it be? (The Chicago contingent might have to pick up some limes on their way here….) I’m going to go with these Key Lime Pie Bars from Sugar Spun Run because she makes amazing desserts!
And last, because I’m not sure that the littles will like key lime pie, and because I am sure there will be a bonfire at some point, I’ll have stuff for s’more on hand, including red, white and blue sprinkles so we can make these super fun Fireworks S’mores! These are super fun and super easy, so they are an automatic win!
And there you have it! A great BBQ menu for holidays or gatherings with family and friends. Not too complicated and not too costly, which means it is just right for fun summer entertaining!
