Fall brings cooler weather and for me, anyway, a break from the grill! Don’t get me wrong, we love grilled food and cooking on the grill all summer is awesome- no mess, great flavor and my husband actually cooks- total win. But, by the end of the summer, I am ready to heat up the oven and get back to cooking the food we missed all summer. Much like your family, we enjoy the occasional comfort food meal to take the chill out of brisk fall days.
These next 10 comfort food recipes are sure to inspire warmth and coziness as the days get a little shorter and a little cooler.
Chicken Tortellini Soup
How delicious does this tortellini soup look? It looks like the perfect cup of soup to curl up next to a fire with- that’s how delicious! Head over to Cafe DeLites for the recipe for Creamy Chicken Tortellini Soup. Easy ingredients and made in your slow cooker this is sure to become a favorite!
Baked Spaghetti
This is a new take on an old favorite- spaghetti and meatballs! Everyone loves spaghetti and they will surely love this Baked Spaghetti dish from Joy in Every Season. There is something about using a cast iron skillet that just feels cozy to me. (If you don’t have a cast iron skillet this is a nice one because it has a lifting handle, is pre-seasoned and at 12.5″ it is large enough for most every recipe.) When I make meatballs for pasta night, I always try to make extras to freeze. I make large and small ones, so I can use the small ones for meatball sandwiches. The small ones would be perfect for this dish!
Funeral Potatoes
Not just for funerals, right?! I love to make a batch of these to have as a side for meals throughout the week. Talk about comfort food, these potatoes are SO GOOD for breakfast with eggs and bacon, too! The Country Cook has a great recipe for Funeral Potatoes.
Beef Ragu
I made this recipe a couple months ago and it is hands down one of my absolute favorite recipes. My husband is not a fan of ricotta cheese, so he will have to leave it off of his because I am not giving up this recipe! This Beef Ragu from Pinch of Yum is fan.tas.tic. You will *love* it! The meat is so flavorful and be sure to use pappardelle pasta because it makes all the difference in the world. The beef is so good- I can’t begin to do it justice- this is one comfort dish you’ll want to prepare soon.
Crockpot Comfort Chicken
I make this chicken all the time- it is ridiculously easy and has just 3 ingredients. We love the “Simply” brand mashed potatoes which makes this one of the easiest meals you will ever prepare! I usually double the recipe so there are leftovers.
Braised Beef Shortribs with Gnocchi
Oh myyyyyyyy. This looks so good! I rarely make gnocchi, even though I love it! This would be perfect for us because I love gnocchi and my husband “requires” meat with his…meat. đ Life Love and Good Food shows us how to make these Braised Beef Short Ribs and Gnocchi using a Dutch oven (one of my favorite kitchen tools!)
Lasagna Soup
Put your new Dutch oven to use again with this delicious Lasagna Soup from Carlsbad Cravings! I use all Italian sausage instead of ground beef, but it’s totally due to our preference. What’s great about this recipe, aside from the ooey-gooey flavorful goodness? The lasagna noodles cook in the soup!
Rosemary Chicken with Portabella Mushrooms
Doesn’t this look amazing! I love portabella mushrooms and rosemary- this is sure to be a tasty dish! Using simple ingredients The Midnite Baker shows us how to make this Rosemary Chicken with Portabella Mushrooms in just 40 minutes.
Chicken Pot Pie Soup
Nothing says âhelloooooo fallâ like a hearty, creamy soup. This Chicken Pot Pie soup from Kitchen Dreaming looks sooooo good, is ready in an hour and uses simple ingredients. My husband will love this recipe!
White Wine Chicken Stew
Mmmmm Mmmmm YUM! Did you buy that Dutch oven yet? (I’m telling you- I *love* my Dutch oven. It is so versatile!) Because you’re going to need it! The Cookie Rookie has an awesome recipe for White Wine Chicken Stew that is loaded with creamy comfort-y goodness, chicken, carrots, potatoes and BACON! Yay!
Don’t these recipes look great! I can’t wait to start making yummy fall foods. Tell us your favorite comfor food in the comments- bonus points for linking to the recipe!
LOOKS LIKE HAPPYâS FAVORITE TIPS, TRICKS AND KITCHENWARE:
- Tip: Shop sales, and base your recipes around whatâs on sale. If you find a *really* good buy and the product can be frozen or has a long shelf life, now is the time to stock up! Short on storage space? Think about adding a storage bench to your dĂ©cor. My kids sat on a goldmine of snacks for *years* before they realized their bench at the dining table was storage. Just be sure to choose one with a seat that can be wiped off or with a darker, busy pattern to hide kid stains.
- Meal prep (see our âMeal Prep Like a Proâ series below) to save yourself tons of time and stress during the week.
- Consider investing in a slow cooker that is programmable, has a time, and switches to âwarmâ once your dish is cooked. I have this one and I love it!
- If you donât have a nice sheet pan, these are fantastic. They are very well made and donât âbuckleâ in the heat of the oven. They are super easy to clean (and dishwasher friendly!!) too. We use them all the time- they are great for making no-mess bacon!
- Make dinners you can double.
- Freeze one for another week.
- Package leftovers for work lunches.
